How to run
22Days left to file
The next seats are decided at the 2027 Consolidated Election on April 6, 2027. Nomination papers are filed October 19, 2026 through October 26, 2026 — the 2027 Consolidated Primary Election's filing window, which this body uses.
- File with
- Bloomington Election Commission
- Signatures
- Set by a formula in state law; the Election Commission's 2027 filing packet states the number.
- You must be
- A registered voter living in the municipality, for at least one year before the election.
- Not in arrears on any debt to the municipality.
- Not convicted of a felony, bribery, perjury or other infamous crime.
- For alderperson: living in the ward for at least one year before the election.
- On the April 2027 ballot: Wards 2, 4, 6 and 8. The mayor and the odd wards are next elected in 2029.
- The Bloomington Election Commission takes petitions for City of Bloomington offices; other McLean County offices file with the McLean County Clerk.
- A complete filing is the notarized Statement of Candidacy, the bound and numbered petition sheets (each with a notarized circulator's statement), and the receipt for your Statement of Economic Interests, which you file with the county clerk first.
- Raising or spending more than $5,000 in any 12 months means forming a political committee with the State Board of Elections and filing reports.
- Anyone may object to your petitions within five business days after filing closes; a filing that is short of signatures or missing a form can be struck.
