Short version: we don’t want your data, and we don’t have any.

Accounts

There are none. No sign-up, no login, no email address required, no cookies set by this site. You can use every page without telling us anything — the one place that asks for anything is the optional polling-place lookup, described below.

What the server sees

Cloudflare logs each request (IP address, user agent, URL) for security and to diagnose failures — standard for any web host, and we don’t use it to build a profile of you. If you want to read Cloudflare’s terms rather than ours, that’s their privacy policy.

Analytics and advertising

None. No Google Analytics, no AdSense, no third-party scripts of any kind. The pages are server-rendered HTML and one stylesheet.

The rate limiter

The JSON API records a counter keyed by IP address in our database, so we can stop one client asking a thousand times a minute. It holds an IP and a number, expires after a minute, and is never joined to anything else.

Outbound requests

Our servers fetch the government feeds listed on the sources page. Those requests carry a user agent identifying WhiskeyCivic and a link to this page, and nothing else — no IP-derived information and no identifier. We do this because it is how you can find out who is reading your feed.

The polling-place lookup

If you type your address into Where you vote, it is sent once to the U.S. Census Bureau’s public geocoder, which turns it into a point on the map and names your districts. Only that point — not your address — is then sent to Peoria County’s public map service to find your precinct and polling place.

We do not store the address, log it or put it in any link: the form is sent as a POST, so it never appears in a URL, and the answer page is marked not to be cached. Close the page and it is gone. The Census Bureau’s own handling of the request is covered by its privacy policy.

Your data in our pages

Everything on this site is public information published by a government body. We reproduce it with attribution and a link back. If you believe something here should not be republished, write to hello@whiskeycivic.com and we’ll take it down while we work out why it appeared.
