How to run
22Days left to file
The next seats are decided at the 2027 Consolidated Election on April 6, 2027. Nomination papers are filed October 19, 2026 through October 26, 2026 — the 2027 Consolidated Primary Election's filing window, which this body uses.
- File with
- Peoria County Election Commission4422 Brandywine Drive, Suite 1, Peoria, IL 61614
- Signatures
- Set by a formula in state law from the last city election's turnout. Ask the Election Commission for this election's number before you circulate.
- You must be
- A registered voter living in the municipality, for at least one year before the election.
- Not in arrears on any debt to the municipality.
- Not convicted of a felony, bribery, perjury or other infamous crime.
- Nonpartisan. The five at-large seats are elected together, citywide, by cumulative voting.
- Peoria nominates by primary: a February 23, 2027 primary is held only if enough candidates file. In 2023, ten candidates ran for the five at-large seats and no primary was needed.
- A complete filing is the notarized Statement of Candidacy, the bound and numbered petition sheets (each with a notarized circulator's statement), and the receipt for your Statement of Economic Interests, which you file with the county clerk first.
- Raising or spending more than $5,000 in any 12 months means forming a political committee with the State Board of Elections and filing reports.
- Anyone may object to your petitions within five business days after filing closes; a filing that is short of signatures or missing a form can be struck.
